Airport Expansion and Development
The Hubli Airport expansion project has been going on for quite some time. 650 acres of land has been acquired for the expansion of the airport. The Infrastructure Development Department of the Government of Karnataka has few details related to development of the airport.
A news report in the Times of India (dated August 12, 2010) states that 350 acres of land has been acquired for the expansion of the airport in a bid to raise it to international standards.
Another report in the Hindu Business Line (dated October 30, 2010) states that a total of 700 acres is being acquired and the process is nearing completion. The acquired land will be handed over to the Airports Authority of India for construction activities. Plans are also being made to make the Hubli airport a logistics hub by providing warehousing facilities. The airport is also expected to boost tourism considering the proximity of Hubli to important tourist destinations like Hampi, Bijapur, Badami, Jog Falls and Goa.
