Karnataka has numerous universities in the fields of Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Horticulture, Commerce and Law. A list of all the universities with a brief introduction is provided below.

Agricultural Universities

There are 3 agricultural universities in Karnataka located at Bangalore, Dharwad and Raichur.

  • The University of Agricultural Sciences Bangalore (UASB) is located at GKVK, Bangalore. It was established in the year 1964. The university has jurisdiction over districts in the southern part of Karnataka.
  • The University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad (UASD) is located at Krishinagar, Dharwad. It was established in the year 1986. The university has jurisdiction over 7 districts of northern Karnataka namely Bagalkot, Belgaum, Bijapur, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri and Uttar Kannada.
  • The University of Agricultural Sciences Raichur is located on Lingasugur Road, Raichur. It was established in the year 2008. The university has jurisdiction over 6 districts of northern Karnataka namely Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bellary, Koppal and Yadgir.

Technological Universities

There is one technological university in Karnataka, located at Belgaum.

  • The Visvesvaraya Technological University. The university is located at Jnana Sangama, Belgaum. It was established in the year 2001. All engineering colleges in Karnataka are affiliated to this university.

Law Universities

There is one law university in Karnataka, located at Hubli.

  • There is one law university in Karnataka, the Karnataka State Law University Hubli (KSLU). The university is located at Navanagar in Hubli. It was established in the year 2009. All law colleges in Karnataka are affiliated to this university.

Regional Universities

There are 6 regional universities in Karnataka located at Mysore, Dharwad, Bangalore, Gulbarga, Mangalore and Shimoga.

  • The University of Mysore (UOM) was established in the year 1916 and is the oldest in Karnataka. It is located at Manasagangotri, Mysore. The university has jurisdiction over colleges in Mysore, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts.
  • The Karnatak University Dharwad (KUD) is located at Pavate Nagar, Dharwad. It was established in the year 1950 and is the second oldest university in Karnataka. The university has jurisdiction over colleges in Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Belgaum and Karwar.
  • The Bangalore University (BU) was established in the year 1964. It was carved out of the University of Mysore and is located at Jnana Bharathi, Bangalore. The university has jurisdiction over the colleges in Bangalore and nearby districts.
  • The Gulbarga University was established in the year 1980. It was carved out of the Karnatak University Dharwad and is located at Jnana Ganga, Gulbarga. The university has jurisdiction over the colleges in Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur, Bellary, Koppal and Yadgir districts.
  • The Mangalore University (MU) was established in the year 1980. It was carved out of the University of Mysore and is located at Mangalagangotri, Mangalore. The university has jurisdiction over the colleges in Dakshin Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu.
  • The Kuvempu University was established in the year 1987. It was carved out of the University of Mysore.
